The Lectionary According to the Common Calendar

Psalm 95

1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD!
Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms.
3 For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
the strength of the hills is His also.
5 The sea is His, and He made it;
and His hands formed the dry land.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
7 For He is our God,
and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.

Today, if ye will hear His voice:
8 "Harden not your heart as in the provocation,
and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness
9 when your fathers tempted Me, proved Me,
and saw My work.
10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation,
and said `It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known My ways.'
11 Unto them I swore in My wrath,
that they should not enter into My rest."

Mark 1:40-45

40 And there came a leper to Him, beseeching Him and kneeling down to Him and saying unto Him, "If Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean." 41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand and touched him, and said unto him,

"I will; be thou clean."

42 And as soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. 43 And He strictly charged him, and forthwith sent him away, 44 saying unto him,

"See that thou say nothing to any man; but go thy way, show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony unto them."

45 But he went out and began to proclaim it much and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, and was outside in desert places. And they came to Him from every quarter.

1 Corinthians 9:16-27

16 For though I preach the Gospel, I have nothing to glory about, for necessity is laid upon me. Yea, woe is unto me if I preach not the Gospel! 17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, a dispensing of the Gospel is committed unto me. 18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the Gospel, I may make the Gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the Gospel.

19 For though I am free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law; 21 to those who are outside the law, as outside the law (though not outside the law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those who are outside the law. 22 To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the Gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24 Know ye not that those who run in a race all run, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain it. 25 And every man that striveth for mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, but not with uncertainty; I so fight, but not as one that beateth the air. 27 But I keep control of my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Judges 14:5-6

5 Then went Samson and his father and his mother down to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion roared against him. 6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand; but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

Judges 15:9-15

9 Then the Philistines went up and pitched camp in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi. 10 And the men of Judah said, "Why have ye come up against us?" And they answered, "To bind Samson have we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us." 11 Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, "Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? What is this that thou hast done unto us?" And he said unto them, "As they did unto me, so have I done unto them." 12 And they said unto him, "We have come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines." And Samson said unto them, "Swear unto me that ye will not fall upon me yourselves." 13 And they spoke unto him, saying, "No, but we will bind thee fast and deliver thee into their hand; but surely we will not kill thee." And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.

14 And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him. And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him; and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burned with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands. 15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.

Judges 16:4-9

4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. 5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her and said unto her, "Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver." 6 And Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee." 7 And Samson said unto her, "If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I be weak and be as another man." 8 Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withes which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. 9 Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, "The Philistines be upon thee, Samson." And he broke the withes as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 11:25

In the day of prosperity there is a forgetfulness of affliction, and in the day of affliction there is no more remembrance of prosperity.
