The Lectionary According to the Common Calendar

Psalm 18:31-50

31 For who is God, except the LORD?
Or who is a rock, except our God?
32 It is God that girdeth me with strength,
and maketh my way perfect.
33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet,
and setteth me upon my high places.
34 He teacheth my hands to war,
so that the bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
35 Thou hast also given me the shield of Thy salvation;
Thy right hand hath held me up, and Thy gentleness hath made me great.
36 Thou hast enlarged my path under me,
that my feet did not slip.

37 I have pursued mine enemies and overtaken them;
neither did I turn back until they were consumed.
38 I have wounded them, that they were not able to rise;
they have fallen under my feet.
39 For Thou hast girded me with strength for the battle;
Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies,
that I might destroy them that hate me.
41 They cried, but there was none to save them,
even unto the LORD, but He answered them not.
42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind;
I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
43 Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and Thou hast made me the head of the heathen;
a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me;
the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.
45 The strangers shall fade away,
and be afraid out of their close places.

46 The LORD liveth, and blessed be my Rock! And let the God of my salvation be exalted!
47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me;
48 He delivereth me from mine enemies. Yea, Thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me;
Thou hast delivered me from violent men.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto Thee, O LORD, among the heathen,
and sing praises unto Thy name.

50 Great deliverance giveth He to His king and showeth mercy to His anointed,
to David and to his seed for evermore.

Matthew 7:9-20

9 "Or what man is there among you whom, if his son ask for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in Heaven give good things to them that ask Him? 12 Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.

13 "Enter ye in at the strait gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat. 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. 20 Therefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.

Acts 9:19b - 31

19b Then was Saul certain days with the disciples who were at Damascus. 20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God. 21 But all that heard him were amazed and said, "Is not this he that destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither with the intent that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?" 22 But Saul increased the more in strength and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that Jesus is the very Christ.

23 And after many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him. 24 But their lying in wait became known to Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. 25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall in a basket.

26 And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join himself to the disciples, but they were all afraid of him and believed not that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord on the way and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. 28 And he was with them, coming in and going out at Jerusalem. 29 And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and disputed against the Grecians, but they went about to slay him. 30 And when the brethren heard of this, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him forth to Tarsus.

31 Then the churches throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had rest and were edified, and, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

Genesis 19:1-14

1 And there came two angels to Sodom at evening, and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. And Lot, seeing them, rose up to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; 2 and he said, "Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early and go on your ways." And they said, "Nay, but we will remain in the street all night." 3 And he pressed upon them greatly, and they turned in unto him and entered into his house; and he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom -- both young and old, all the people from every quarter -- compassed the house around. 5 And they called unto Lot and said unto him, "Where are the men who came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them." 6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him 7 and said, "I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known a man. Let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes. Only unto these men do nothing, for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof." 9 And they said, "Stand back." And they said again, "This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will become a judge! Now will we deal worse with thee than with them." And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth their hands, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. 11 And they smote the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12 And the men said unto Lot, "Hast thou here any besides? Son-in-law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whomsoever thou hast in the city -- bring them out of this place. 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them has waxed great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it." 14 And Lot went out and spoke unto his sons-in-law, who married his daughters, and said, "Up, get ye out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!" But he seemed as one who mocked unto his sons-in-law.

Words of Wisdom -  Proverbs 3:1-2

My son, forget not my law,
but let thine heart keep my commandments;
for length of days and long life
and peace shall they add to thee.
