from the The Lectionary According to the Common Calendar Psalm 17
Luke 8:16-25
19 Then came to Him His mother and His brethren, and could not come near Him because of the crowd. 20 And it was told to Him by certain ones, who said, "Thy mother and thy brethren stand outside, desiring to see thee." 21 And He answered and said unto them,
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that He went into a boat with His disciples. And He said unto them,
And they launched forth. 23 But as they sailed, He fell asleep. And there came down a storm of wind on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we perish!" Then He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 And He said unto them,
And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, "What manner of man is this? For He commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!" Colossians 3:18-25 18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter against them. 20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. 22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God. 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men, 24 knowing that from the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done, and there is no respect of persons. Job 28:12-28 12 But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? 13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. 14 The deep saith, `It is not in me'; and the sea saith, `It is not with me.' 15 It cannot be gotten for gold; neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. 16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire. 17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it; and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. 18 No mention shall be made of coral or of pearls, for the price of wisdom is above rubies. 19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it; neither shall it be valued with pure gold. 20 "Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding-- 21 seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air? 22 Destruction and death say, `We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.' 23 God understandeth the way thereof, and He knoweth the place thereof. 24 For He looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven, 25 to make the weight for the winds, and He weigheth the waters by measure. 26 When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder, 27 then did He see it and declare it; He prepared it, yea, and searched it out. 28 And unto man He said, `Behold, the fear of the Lord: that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.'"
