The Lectionary According to the Common Calendar

Psalm 150

1 Praise ye the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary;
praise Him in the firmament of His power!
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts;
praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
praise Him with the psaltery and harp!
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
praise Him with stringed instruments and organs!
5 Praise Him upon the loud cymbals;
praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals!

6 Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD!
Praise ye the LORD!

Luke 1:67-80

67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost and prophesied, saying,

68 "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for He hath visited and redeemed His people,
69 and hath raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of His servant David.
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets,
who have been since the world began,
71 that we should be saved from our enemies
and from the hand of all that hate us,
72 to perform the mercy promised to our fathers
and to remember His holy covenant,
73 the oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
74 that He would grant unto us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies,
might serve Him without fear,
75 in holiness and righteousness before Him
all the days of our life.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest;
for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
77 to give knowledge of salvation unto His people by the remission of their sins,
78 through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the Dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace."

80 And the child grew and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts until the day of his appearing unto Israel.

Ephesians 4:1-16

1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8 Therefore He saith,

"When He ascended up on high,
He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men."

9 (Now the saying, "He ascended" -- what does it mean but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same who also ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fill all things.) 11 And He gave some to be apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 until we all come into the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we henceforth be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the sleight of men and their cunning and craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, who is the Head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

2 Chronicles 7:1-3, 12-14, 19-22

1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. 2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD'S house. 3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshiped and praised the LORD, saying,

"For He is good,
for His mercy endureth for ever."

12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night and said unto him: "I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself for a house of sacrifice. 13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

19 "But if ye turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods and worship them, 20 then will I pluck them up by the roots out of My land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name will I cast out of My sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations. 21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one who passeth by it, so that he shall say, `Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land and unto this house?' 22 And it shall be answered, `Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore hath He brought all this evil upon them.'"

and a babbler is no better.
