The Lectionary According to the Common Calendar

Psalm 128

1 Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD,
that walketh in His ways.
2 For thou shalt eat the labor of thine hands;
happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house, thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
4 Behold that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion,
and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children,
and peace upon Israel.

Mark 12:41-44

41 And Jesus sat opposite the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury. And many who were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And He called unto Him His disciples and said unto them,

"Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in than all they that have cast into the treasury; 44 for they all cast in of their abundance, but she of her want cast in all that she had, even all her living."

Galatians 2:1-10

1 Then fourteen years later I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that Gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. 3 But neither was Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, compelled to be circumcised; 4 and that because false brethren were brought in by stealth, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage. 5 To them we gave place by submission not even for an hour, that the truth of the Gospel might continue with you.

6 But of those who seemed to be something (whosoever they were, it maketh no difference to me: God accepteth no man's person) -- those who seemed to be somewhat in consultation added nothing to me; 7 but contrariwise, when they saw that the Gospel to the Uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the Gospel to the Circumcision was unto Peter 8 (for He that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the Circumcision, that Same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles), 9 and when James, Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the heathen and they unto the Circumcision. 10 Only they would that we should remember the poor, the same as I also was eager to do.

1 Kings 12:20-33

20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. There was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

21 And when Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon. 22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 23 "Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying, 24 `Thus saith the LORD: Ye shall not go up nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel. Return every man to his house, for this thing is from Me.'" They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in Mount Ephraim and dwelt therein, and went out from thence and built Penuel. 26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David. 27 If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah." 28 Whereupon the king took counsel and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt!" 29 And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. 30 And this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan. 31 And he made a house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi. 32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made; and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. 33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart, and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel; and he offered upon the altar and burned incense.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 9:9-10

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity,
which He hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity;
for that is thy portion in this life,
and in thy labor which thou hast done under the sun.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might,
for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave whither thou goest.
