The Lectionary According to the Common Calendar

Psalm 119:145-160

145 I cried with my whole heart: hear me, O LORD;
I will keep Thy statutes.
146 I cried unto Thee: save me,
and I shall keep Thy testimonies.
147 I awaited the dawning of the morning and cried;
I hoped in Thy word.
148 Mine eyes awaited the night watches,
that I might meditate on Thy word.
149 Hear my voice according unto Thy lovingkindness;
O LORD, quicken me according to Thy judgment.
150 They draw nigh that follow after mischief;
they are far from Thy law.
151 Thou art near, O LORD, and all Thy commandments are truth.
152 Concerning Thy testimonies, I have known of old that Thou hast founded them for ever.

153 Consider mine affliction and deliver me,
for I do not forget Thy law.
154 Plead my cause and deliver me;
quicken me according to Thy word.
155 Salvation is far from the wicked,
for they seek not Thy statutes.
156 Great are Thy tender mercies, O LORD;
quicken me according to Thy judgments.
157 Many are my persecutors and mine enemies,
yet do I not depart from Thy testimonies.
158 I beheld the transgressors and was grieved,
because they kept not Thy word.
159 Consider how I love Thy precepts;
quicken me, O LORD, according to Thy lovingkindness.
160 Thy word is true from the beginning,
and every one of Thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

Mark 10:46-52

46 And they came to Jericho. And as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the wayside begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me!" 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace; but he cried out all the more, "Thou Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, "Be of good comfort; rise; He calleth thee." 50 And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him,

"What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?"

The blind man said unto Him, "Lord, that I might receive my sight." 52 And Jesus said unto him,

"Go thy way. Thy faith hath made thee whole."

And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

2 Corinthians 10:7-18

7 Do ye look on things according to the outward appearance? If any man trust himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. 8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority (which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction), I should not be ashamed, 9 that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. 10 "For his letters," say they, "are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible." 11 Let such a one think this: that as we are in word by letters when we are absent, so will we be also in deed when we are present.

12 For we dare not number ourselves, or compare ourselves, with some who commend themselves. For in measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, they are not wise. 13 But we will not boast of things beyond our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you. For we have come as far as to you also in preaching the Gospel of Christ, 15 not boasting of things beyond our own measure, that is, of other men's labors; but having hope that, when your faith has increased, we shall be magnified in you according to our rule abundantly, 16 to preach the Gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's rule, which he made ready for our hand. 17 But "he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." 18 For it is not he that commendeth himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

2 Samuel 19:1-15

1 And it was told Joab: "Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom." 2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people, for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son. 3 And the people got themselves by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle. 4 But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, "O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!" 5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, "Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants who this day have saved thy life and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives and the lives of thy concubines, 6 in that thou lovest thine enemies and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day that thou regardest neither princes nor servants; for this day I perceive that if Absalom had lived and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well. 7 Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortingly unto thy servants. For I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night; and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that befell thee from thy youth until now." 8 Then the king arose and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, "Behold, the king doth sit in the gate." And all the people came before the king, for Israel had fled every man to his tent. 9 And all the people were in strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land because of Absalom. 10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore, why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?"

11 And King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, "Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, `Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house, seeing the speech of all Israel has come to the king, even to his house? 12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh. Why then are ye the last to bring back the king?' 13 And say ye to Amasa, `Art thou not of my bone and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in place of Joab.'" 14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man, so that they sent this word unto the king: "Return thou, and all thy servants." 15 So the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over the Jordan.

Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 17:29

How great is the lovingkindness of the Lord our God,
and His compassion unto such as turn unto Him in holiness!
