Scripture Reading for
Common Calendar Year
(beginning January 1st)
Authorized VersionTM NAVTM)
According to the Common Calendar
1 Hear my prayer, O LORD,
and let my cry come unto Thee.
2 Hide not Thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble;
incline Thine ear unto me. In the day when I call,
answer me speedily.
3 For my days are consumed like smoke,
and my bones are burned as a hearth.
4 My heart is smitten and withered like grass,
so that I forget to eat my bread.
5 By reason of the voice of my groaning
my bones cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness;
I am like an owl of the desert.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow
alone upon the housetop.
8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day,
and them that are mad against me are sworn against me.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread
and mingled my drink with weeping,
10 because of Thine indignation and Thy wrath;
for Thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.
11 My days are like a shadow that declineth,
and I am withered like grass.
12 But Thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever,
and Thy remembrance unto all generations.
13 Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion;
for the time to favor her, yea, the set time has come.
14 For Thy servants take pleasure in her stones,
and favor the dust thereof.
15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD,
and all the kings of the earth Thy glory.
16 When the LORD shall build up Zion,
He shall appear in His glory.
17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute,
and not despise their prayer.
18 This shall be written for the generation to come,
and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD.
19 For He hath looked down from the height of His sanctuary;
from heaven did the LORD behold the earth,
20 to hear the groaning of the prisoner,
to loose those that are appointed to death,
21 to declare the name of the LORD in Zion,
and His praise in Jerusalem,
22 when people are gathered together,
and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.
23 He weakened my strength on the way;
He shortened my days.
24 I said, "O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days;
Thy years are throughout all generations.
25 Of old hast Thou laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of Thy hands.
26 They shall perish, but Thou shalt endure;
yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;
and as a vesture shalt Thou change them,
and they shall be changed.
27 But Thou art the same,
and Thy years shall have no end.
28 The children of Thy servants shall continue,
and their seed shall be established before Thee."
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying,
"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" 53 Then Jesus
said unto them,
"Verily, verily I
say unto you, unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His
blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth My flesh and drinketh
My blood hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the Last Day.
55 For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He
that eateth My flesh and drinketh My blood dwelleth in Me, and I in
him. 57 As the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father,
so he that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me. 58 This is that Bread
which came down from Heaven, not as your fathers ate manna and are
dead; he that eateth of this Bread shall live for ever."
1 Peter 4:12-19
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is
to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you; 13 but
rejoice inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, that, when
His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14
If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye, for the Spirit
of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part evil is spoken of
Him, but on your part He is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as
a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other
men's matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be
ashamed, but let him glorify God on this account. 17 For the time has
come that judgment must begin at the house of God. And if it first begin
with us, what shall the end be of those who obey not the Gospel of God?
"If the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly
and the sinner appear?"
19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit
the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing, as unto a faithful
1 Then said the LORD unto me, "Go yet, love a woman
beloved of her friend yet an adulteress, according to the love of the
LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love
flagons of wine." 2 So I bought her for myself for fifteen pieces
of silver, and for a homer of barley and a half homer of barley. 3 And I
said unto her, "Thou shalt abide for me many days. Thou shalt not
play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man. So will I also
be for thee." 4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days
without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and
without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim. 5
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their
God and David their king, and shall fear the LORD and His goodness in
the latter days.
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel; for
the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because
there is no truth nor mercy nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 "By swearing and lying, and killing and
stealing and committing adultery,
they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth
therein shall languish with the beasts of the field and with the
fowls of heaven;
yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Yet let no man strive with, nor reprove another;
for this people are as they that strive with the priest.
5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall
fall with thee in the night;
and I will destroy thy mother.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that
thou shalt be no priest to Me.
Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God,
I will also forget thy children.
7 "As they were increased, so they sinned
therefore will I change their glory into shame.
8 They eat up the sin of My people,
and they set their heart on their iniquity.
9 And it shall be: like people, like priest;
and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
10 For they shall eat and not have enough; they shall commit
whoredom and shall not increase,
because they have left off taking heed of the LORD.
Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 16:29
For the hope of the unfaithful shall
melt away as the winter's hoarfrost,
and shall run away as unprofitable water.
