Scripture Reading for
Common Calendar Year
(beginning January 1st)
Authorized VersionTM NAVTM)
According to the Common Calendar
1 Hear my cry, O God;
attend unto my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee
when my heart is overwhelmed;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For Thou hast been a shelter for me
and a strong tower from the enemy.
4 I will abide in Thy tabernacle for ever;
I will trust in the refuge of Thy wings.
5 For Thou, O God, hast heard my
Thou hast given me the heritage of those that
fear Thy name.
6 Thou wilt prolong the king's life,
and his years shall be as many generations.
7 He shall abide before God for ever;
O prepare mercy and truth, that they may preserve
8 So will I sing praise unto Thy name for ever,
that I may daily perform my vows.
41 And He said unto them,
"How say they that Christ
is David's son? 42 For David himself saith in the book of Psalms:'
The LORD said unto my Lord,
"Sit Thou on My right hand,
43 until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool."'
44 If David therefore calleth Him 'Lord,' how is He then his son?"
45 Then in the audience of all the people, He said unto His
46 "Beware of the scribes
who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the
highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; 47 who devour
widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers. The same shall receive
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise
being left to us of entering into His rest, any of you
should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the
Gospel preached, as well as unto them; but the Word
preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith
in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do
enter into rest, as He said,
"As I have sworn in My
'If they shall enter into My rest'"--
although the works were finished from the
foundation of the world. 4 For He spoke in a certain
place of the seventh day in this way: "And God
rested on the seventh day from all His works." 5 And
again in this place:
"If they shall enter into My
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some
must enter therein, and those to whom it was first
preached did not enter in because of unbelief, 7 again He
designates a certain day, saying in David
"today," after so long a time, as it is said,
"Today if you will hear His
harden not your hearts."
8 For if Joshua had given them rest,
then He would not afterwards have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God.
10 For he that has entered into His rest, he also hath
ceased from his own works, as God did from His. 11 Let us
labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man
fall according to the same example of unbelief. 12 For
the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than
any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder
of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His
sight, but all things are naked and open unto the eyes of
Him with whom we have to do.
Jeremiah 10:1-10, 19-24
1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house
2 Thus saith the LORD:
"Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of
for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain;
for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the
workman, with the ax.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold;
they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not;
they must be borne, because they cannot go.
Be not afraid of them, for they cannot do evil,
neither also is it in them to do good."
6 Inasmuch as there is none like unto Thee, O LORD--Thou art
great, and Thy name is great in might"
7 who would not fear Thee, O King of nations?
For to Thee doth it appertain,
inasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms,
there is none like unto Thee.
8 But they are altogether brutish and foolish;
the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
9 Silver beaten into plates is brought from Tarshish,
and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman and of the hands of the
Blue and purple is their clothing;
they are all the work of skillful men.
10 But the LORD is the true God;
He is the living God and an everlasting King.
At His wrath the earth shall tremble,
and the nations shall not be able to abide His indignation.
19 Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is grievous;
but I said, "Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it."
20 My tabernacle is despoiled,
and all my cords are broken;
my children are gone forth from me, and they are no more;
there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD;
therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
22 Behold, the noise of the clamor is come, and a great commotion out of the
to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself;
it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
24 O LORD, correct me, but with judgment,
not in Thine anger, lest Thou bring me to nothing.
