The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
Exodus 32:1-14
1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of
the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said unto him,
"Arise, make us gods which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the
man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what has become of
him." 2 And Aaron said unto them, "Break off the golden earrings which
are in the ears of your wives, of your sons and of your daughters, and bring
them unto me." 3 And all the people broke off the golden earrings which
were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. 4 And he received them from
their hand, and fashioned it with an engraving tool after he had made it a
molten calf; and they said, "These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought
thee up out of the land of Egypt!" 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an
altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation and said, "Tomorrow is a feast
to the LORD." 6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt
offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to
drink, and rose up to play.
7 And the LORD said unto Moses, "Go, get thee down; for thy
people which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.
8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They
have made themselves a molten calf and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed
thereunto and said, `These are thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up
out of the land of Egypt!'" 9 And the LORD said unto Moses, "I have
seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people. 10 Now therefore let
Me alone, that My wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them;
and I will make of thee a great nation." 11 And Moses besought the LORD his
God and said, "LORD, why doth Thy wrath wax hot against Thy people, whom
Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a
mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians speak and say, `For mischief did He
bring them out, to slay them in the mountains and to consume them from the face
of the earth'? Turn from Thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against Thy
people. 13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Thy servants to whom Thou
sworest by Thine own self and saidst unto them, `I will multiply your seed as
the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto
your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.'" 14 And the LORD repented
of the evil which He thought to do unto His people.
Psalm 51
1 Have mercy upon me, O God,
according to Thy lovingkindness;
according unto the multitude of Thy tender
mercies, blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against Thee, Thee only, have I sinned and done
this evil in Thy sight,
that Thou mightest be justified when Thou
speakest, and be clear when Thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shaped in
iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, Thou desirest truth in my inward parts;
in the hidden part Thou shalt make me to know
wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness,
that the bones which Thou hast broken may
rejoice.
9 Hide Thy face from my sins,
and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O
God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from Thy presence,
and take not Thy holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,
and uphold me with Thy free Spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors Thy ways,
and sinners shall be converted unto Thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, Thou
God of my salvation,
and my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy
righteousness.
15 O Lord, open Thou my lips,
and my mouth shall show forth Thy praise.
16 For Thou desirest not sacrifice, else would I
give it;
Thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt
not despise.
18 Do good in Thy good pleasure unto Zion;
build Thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt Thou be pleased with the sacrifices of
righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
then shall they offer bullocks upon Thine altar.
1 Timothy 1:12-17
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, that He
counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry-- 13 I, who was once a
blasphemer and a persecutor and injurious. But I obtained mercy, because I did
it ignorantly in unbelief; 14 and the grace of our Lord was exceedingly
abundant with faith and love, which are in Christ Jesus.
15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance: that Christ
Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 16 Nonetheless,
for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth
all longsuffering as a pattern for those who should hereafter believe in Him to
life everlasting. 17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the
only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Words of Worship - 2 Corinthians 5:19
to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world
unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them, and hath
committed unto us the Word of reconciliation.
Luke 15
1 Then drew near unto Him all the
publicans and sinners to hear Him. 2 And the Pharisees
and scribes murmured, saying, "This man receiveth
sinners and eateth with them." 3 And He spoke this
parable unto them, saying,
4 "What man of you,
having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth
not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and
go after that which is lost until he find it? 5 And
when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders,
rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth
together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them,
`Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was
lost!' 7 I say unto you that likewise more joy shall
be in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth, than
over ninety and nine just persons who need no
repentance.
8 "Or what woman, having
ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not
light a candle and sweep the house and seek
diligently until she find it? 9 And when she hath
found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors
together, saying, `Rejoice with me, for I have found
the piece which I had lost!' 10 Likewise I say unto
you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of
God over one sinner that repenteth."
11 And He said,
"A certain man had two sons. 12 And the
younger of them said to his father, `Father, give me the portion of goods that
falleth to me.' And he divided unto them his estate. 13 And not many days
after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far
country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he
had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land, and he began to be in
want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, who sent
him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly
with the husks that the swine ate, and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he
came to himself, he said, `How many hired servants of my father's have bread
enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my
father and will say unto him, "Father, I have sinned against Heaven and
before thee, 19 and am no more worthy to be called thy son. Make me as one of
thy hired servants."' 20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he
was yet a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and
fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, `Father, I have
sinned against Heaven and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy
son.' 22 But the father said to his servants, `Bring forth the best robe and
put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring
hither the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this
my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they
began to be merry.
25 "Now his elder son was in the field;
and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And
he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he
said unto him, `Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted
calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.' 28 And he was angry and
would not go in; therefore came his father out and entreated him. 29 And he
answering said to his father, `Lo, these many years have I served thee,
neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest
me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this thy
son was come who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for
him the fatted calf.' 31 And he said unto him, `Son, thou art ever with me,
and all that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should make merry and be
glad; for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is
found.'"
Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 27:1
Boast not thyself of tomorrow,
for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Jesus Speaks
Morals & Values - Matthew 21:42
Jesus said unto them,
"Did ye never read in the
Scriptures:
'The stone which the builders rejected,
the same is become the head of the corner.
This is the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
