The Lectionary
According to the Christian Seasons
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you
the Gospel which I preached unto you, which you also have received, and
wherein ye stand, 2 by which ye also are saved if ye keep in memory what
I preached unto you-- unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered
unto you first of all that which I also received: how that Christ died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and
that He arose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and
that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve, 6 and that He was seen
by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain
unto this present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen
by James, then by all the apostles. 8 And last of all He was seen by me
also, as by one born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of the
apostles, not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the
church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace
which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more
abundantly than they all -- yet not I, but the grace of God which was
with me. 11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye
believed.
Psalm 118
1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good,
for His mercy endureth for ever!
2 Let Israel now say that His mercy endureth for ever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say
that His mercy endureth for ever.
4 Let them that fear the LORD now say
that His mercy endureth for ever.
5 I called upon the LORD in distress;
the LORD answered me,
and set me in an ample place.
6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do unto me?
7 The LORD taketh my part among them that help me;
therefore shall I see what I desire
upon them that hate me.
8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put
confidence in man.
9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put
confidence in princes.
10 All the nations compassed me about,
but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.
11 They compassed me about, yea, they compassed
me about;
but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
12 They compassed me about like bees,
they are quenched as the fire of thorns;
for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
13 Thou hast thrust sorely at me that I might fall,
but the LORD helped me.
14 The LORD is my strength and song,
and has become my salvation.
15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the
tabernacles
of the righteous;
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted;
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live
and declare the works of the LORD.
18 The LORD hath chastened me sorely,
but He hath not given me over unto death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD-
20 this gate of the LORD, into which the righteous
shall enter.
21 I will praise Thee,
for Thou hast heard me and art become my salvation.
22 The stone which the builders refused
has become the head stone of the corner.
23 This is the LORD'S doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save now, I beseech Thee, O LORD;
O LORD, I beseech Thee, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD!
We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
27 God is the LORD, who hath shown us light;
bind the sacrifice with cords,
even unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise Thee;
Thou art my God, I will exalt Thee.
29 O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good;
for His mercy endureth for ever!
Words of Worship - Matthew 11:28
"Come unto Me all ye
that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Luke 7:36-50
36 And one of the Pharisees desired Him that He would eat with
him. And He went into the Pharisee's house and sat down to meat. 37 And behold,
a woman in the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that Jesus sat at meat
in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 and stood at
His feet behind Him weeping; and began to wash His feet with tears and wiped
them with the hair of her head, and kissed His feet and anointed them with the
ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had bidden Him saw it, he spoke within
himself, saying, "This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and
what manner of woman this is who toucheth him, for she is a sinner." 40 And
Jesus answering said unto him,
"Simon, I have something to say unto thee."
And he said, "Master, say on."
41 "There was a certain
creditor that had two debtors. The one owed five hundred pence, and the other
fifty. 42 And when they had nothing to pay, he freely forgave them both. Tell
me therefore, which of them will love him most?"
43 Simon answered and said, "I suppose that he to whom he
forgave most. And He said unto him,
"Thou hast rightly
judged."
44 And He turned to the woman and said unto Simon,
"Seest thou this woman? I
entered into thine house: Thou gavest Me no water for My feet, but she hath
washed My feet with tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45 Thou
gavest Me no kiss, but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to
kiss My feet. 46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint, but this woman hath
anointed My feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I say unto thee, her sins, which
are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven,
the same loveth little."
48 And He said unto her,
"Thy sins are
forgiven."
49 And those who sat at meat with Him began to say within
themselves, "Who is this that forgiveth sins also?" 50 And He said to
the woman,
Words of Wisdom - Ecclesiasticus 35:8
Give the Lord His honor with a good eye,
and diminish not the firstfruits of thine hands.
Jesus Speaks
Morals & Values - Matthew 23:13-14
"But woe unto
you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye shut up the Kingdom
of Heaven against men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither
suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows' houses, and for a
pretense make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive the greater
damnation.
