The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Proverbs 3:27-35

27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due
when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
28 Say not unto thy neighbor, "Go, and come again,
and tomorrow I will give," when thou hast it with thee.
29 Devise not evil against thy neighbor,
seeing he dwelleth securely beside thee.

30 Strive not with a man without cause
if he has done thee no harm.
31 Envy thou not the oppressor,
and choose none of his ways;
32 for the froward is an abomination to the LORD,
but His secret is with the righteous.

33 The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked,
but He blesseth the habitation of the just.
34 Surely He scorneth the scorners,
but He giveth grace unto the lowly.
35 The wise shall inherit glory,
but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

Psalm 15

1 LORD, who shall abide in Thy tabernacle?
Who shall dwell in Thy holy hill?
2 He that walketh uprightly and worketh righteousness,
and speaketh the truth in his heart;
3 he that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbor,
nor spreadeth a reproach against his neighbor;
4 in whose eyes a vile person is contemned,
but he honoreth them that fear the LORD;
he that taketh an oath to his own hurt,
and changeth not;
5 he that putteth not out his money to usury,
nor taketh a bribe against the innocent.
He that doeth these things
shall never be moved.

Words of Worship - Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.

Luke 8:16-18

16 "No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel or putteth it under a bed, but setteth it on a candlestick, that they that enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid that shall not be known and come abroad. 18 Take heed therefore how ye hear, for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have."

Words of Wisdom - Wisdom of Solomon 16:27-28

For that which was not destroyed by the fire,
being warmed with a little sunbeam, soon melted away,
that it might be known that we must precede the sun to give Thee thanks,
and at the dayspring pray unto Thee.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 25:14-30

"For the Kingdom of Heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to every man according to his several ability, and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them another five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained another two. But he that had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord's money. After a long time the lord of those servants came and reckoned with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought the other five talents, saying, `Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents. Behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.' His lord said unto him, `Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.'

"He also that had received two talents came and said, `Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.' His lord said unto him, `Well done, good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.'

"Then he that had received the one talent came and said, `Lord, I knew thee, that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strewed. And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth. Lo, there thou hast what is thine.' His lord answered and said unto him, `Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed. Thou ought therefore to have placed my money with the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with interest. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him that hath not, shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
