The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

Job 19:19-27

19 All my intimate friends abhorred me,
and they whom I loved are turned against me.
20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh,
and I have escaped with the skin of my teeth.

21 "Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends,
for the hand of God hath touched me!
22 Why do ye persecute me as God,
and are not satisfied with my flesh?
23 Oh, that my words were now written! Oh, that they were printed in a book,
24 that they were graven with an iron pen and lead, in the rock for ever!
25 For I know that my Redeemer liveth,
and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth;
26 and though after my skin, worms destroy this body,
yet in my flesh shall I see God,
27 whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another,
though my reins be consumed within me.

Psalm 27

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh,
they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army should encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war should rise against me,
even in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the LORD;
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple.
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion;
in the secret places of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me upon a rock.
6 And then shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me;
therefore I will offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy;
I will sing,
yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me and answer me.
8 When Thou saidst, "Seek ye My face,"
my heart said unto Thee, "Thy face, LORD, will I seek."
9 Hide not Thy face far from me;
put not Thy servant away in anger.
Thou hast been my help; leave me not,
neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me,
then the LORD will take me up.

11 Teach me Thy way, O LORD,
and lead me in a level path because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies;
for false witnesses have risen up against me,
and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I would have fainted,
unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the LORD;
be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart.
Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Words of Worship - Mark 1:15b

The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent ye and believe the Gospel."

Luke 10:1-12

1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two ahead of Him into every city and place whither He Himself would come. 2 Therefore He said unto them,

"The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest. 3 Go your ways; behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves, 4 carrying neither purse, nor pack, nor shoes; and salute no man by the way. 5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, `Peace be to this house.' 6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, it shall return to you again. 7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatsoever city ye enter and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9 And heal the sick that are therein and say unto them, `The Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.' 10 But into whatsoever city ye enter and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same and say, 11 `Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you. Notwithstanding, be ye sure of this: that the Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.' 12 But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 28:6

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness
than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Mark 6:4

But Jesus said unto them,

"A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house."
