The Lectionary According to the Christian Seasons

1 Corinthians 5:1-8

1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, of such a kind as is not so much as even named among the Gentiles: that one should have his father's wife. 2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3 For I verily, though absent in body but present in spirit, have judged already as though I were present concerning him who hath so done this deed: 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, I being there in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Psalm 5

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD;
consider my meditation.
2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King and my God,
for unto Thee will I pray.
3 My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O LORD;
in the morning will I direct my prayer unto Thee and will look up.

4 For Thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness;
neither shall evil dwell with Thee.
5 The foolish shall not stand in Thy sight;
Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak lies;
the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, I will come into Thy house in the multitude of Thy mercy,
and in Thy fear will I worship toward Thy holy temple.
8 Lead me, O LORD, in Thy righteousness because of mine enemies;
make Thy way straight before my face.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth;
their inward part is exceeding wickedness.
Their throat is an open sepulcher;
they flatter with their tongue.
10 Destroy Thou them, O God!
Let them fall by their own counsels.
Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,
for they have rebelled against Thee.

11 But let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice;
let them ever shout for joy,
because Thou defendest them;
let them also that love Thy name be joyful in Thee.
12 For Thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous;
with favor wilt Thou compass him about as with a shield.

Words of Worship - John 10:27

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me.

Luke 6:1-11

1 And it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that He went through the cornfields. And His disciples plucked the ears of corn and, rubbing them in their hands, ate. 2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, "Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?" 3 And Jesus answering them said,

"Have ye not read so much as this, what David did when he himself hungered and they that were with him: 4 how he went into the house of God, and took and ate the showbread and gave also to them that were with him, which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?"

5 And He said unto them,

"The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath."

6 And it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that He entered into the synagogue and taught. And there was a man whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched Him to see whether He would heal on the Sabbath day, that they might find an accusation against Him. 8 But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand,

"Rise up and stand forth in the midst."

And he arose and stood forth. 9 Then said Jesus unto them,

"I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? To save life, or to destroy it?"

10 And looking round about upon them all, He said unto the man,

"Stretch forth thy hand."

And he did so, and his hand was restored whole as the other. 11 And they were filled with madness, and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

Words of Wisdom - Proverbs 25:28

He that hath no rule over his own spirit
is like a city that is broken down and without walls.

Jesus Speaks Morals & Values - Matthew 18:21-22

Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?"  And Jesus said unto him,

"I say not unto thee, until seven times, but until seventy times seven.
